Part of the fun of returning to riding, is photography. For some reason you just get to see things while you are riding that you wouldn't if you were say ... riding in a car going 70 mph. Riding a cruiser gives me the opportunity to stop ... and turn around when I find an interesting scene. I'm usually one for the weird and unusual. I love to view landscape ... but rarely get the desired photo I want because they are just to grand for capture. I used to have a ton of camera equipment ... I was Nikon Nut. In the digital age I have a little Sony digital ... it is very limited ... but small. I can carry it in a fanny pack or small bag on my bike so that I can get to it in a hurry. On Saturday morning's lake ride to Isle du Bois ... as I was going out of the park ... I caught up with this turtle ... zig zagging across the road. To my surprise when I pulled up beside him ... he actually responded to the sound of my pipes ... I guess they have sensitive ears. One day ... in the future ... I hope to be able to afford a Nikon digital SLR style with interchangeable lenses. For now the Sony does OK.
It's Monday! Oi vey. We spent yesterday afternoon after church doing artwork and getting ready to start biz today. We have a full week. I've gone to church now three weeks in a row ... something I haven't done in a while. I had a real pull to stay at home and worship ... but I am really trying to get plugged into a local body. It's hard. I've said this before ... I would rather go shoe shopping with Neenie than scope out churches to attend .... shoe shopping with her would be easier and more enjoyable. (That's saying a lot for me). I have to admit the only reason I go to church is to fellowship with other believers ... but it takes a while before 'other' believers will have anything to do with you. I understand this phenom ... so don't feel bad and want to give me advice. Remember, I was a pastor for 30 years. We go to a really young church ... there is pretty much no one there our age ... that's cool because we feel too old to go to churches that have people our age there. If I had to give advice to churches who are trying hard to reach out into a community and make a difference I would say this ... be more concerned about the people who show up on Sunday morning than anything else you do. I'll get off that now.
I'm suppose to have coffee with one of the guys from bikerchaplain.com on Friday of this week. I'm looking forward to that ... as well as checking out the things I need to do for the 'ghost' to get her safe to ride. With 30K ... there are a lot of things that need replacing ... just to make her safe. I think the difference between me riding at 50 and me riding at 30 is ... safety is a major concern. So many car drivers do not know what it is like riding a bike when they ride your taillight at 60 mph. My pet peeve ... drivers and cell phones who drive with one hand and talk into the other. Even though it freaks me out to see people with those stupid little things sticking out their ears and talking into the abyss ... it still is safer.
Better get to work.
