May 31 marks the kick off to ROT bike rally in Austin. It is one of the biggest rallies around and I hear that it is a lot of fun. Hopefully we will make the journey this year. The cost is about $45 per ... which gets you into everything. I would just be happy if it stopped raining here long enough to run down the road.

I promise to bring home some pics like this soon. I have found several sites that give you some great motorcycle routes ... no matter where you live. These sites give you some insight into things to see and roads to travel. It's nice. It's almost like a tour guide that you can turn off. Motorcycleroad.us is one of those sites. It gives you some pretty good info on areas that you would like to travel. Like I said ... there are many of these sites ... if you would like to recommend one ... feel free.

It's that time of year. The bluebonnets and paint brushes are going to be thick this year. Any trip through the hill country of Texas is going to take a little extra time ... because around every bend will be a breath taking array of color. You will want to stop and snap a few or just sit and enjoy the beauty. You don't have to go to the hill country to find Texas bluebonnets ... they are every where ... even my front yard! If you are not from Texas ... please note that it is illegal to pick bluebonnets. Leave them be. Just enjoy. The picture is from a great site I found ... this guy has some really good photos ... Why does the open road call to us? Just looking at this picture puts me into a different frame of mind. It doesn't really matter where it is. The open road conveys a truth about freedom. Sweeping corners, balance, speed, and awesome scenery. I couldn't even image wasting this road, driving it in a car ... could you? Yesterday was a rainy Monday (rainy days and Monday always get me down, Karen was right), no riding for sure ... but there is always a thought of open roads and clear skys.

(This is a photo of a russian sub docked as a museum piece in San Diego. Caleb, James and I crawled through this thing.) I made about 100 miles on the Valk yesterday ... enjoying the weather and regaining sanity. Well, sort of. In a hundred mile trip ... how many times would you think that some cage driver would a.) pull out in front of you. b.) come over on you c.) turn in front of you. Ding, ding, ding ... all three happened yesterday. I am definitely getting a bigger, louder horn. Or ... possibly figure out how to mount a torpedo launcher on my bike. Okay ... maybe a torpedo launcher is too much ... way too heavy. I'll just stick to the horn.

You haven't really lived until you have sat in the parking lot of a state penitentiary for two hours on a very icy winter day in January. You really haven't lived until you have thought about what it must be like for someone you know and love to be inside and you can do nothing but wait. You haven't really lived until you have been thankful for your life and freedom that we all take for granted. You haven't really lived until you learn what terms like "dragging chains" mean. You really haven't lived until you have shared the pain of someone else's mistakes. Living is not just the good things that happen ... because the not so good are those things that make you better.

It's official ... spring is here. Hopefully no more riding with multiple layers of bulky clothing. We took a cruise over to The Colony ... that's the name of the city that we are planning to move to. And Yes, the name of the city if "The Colony". Weird ... Any hoo ... the weather was great ... even after dark. We ate supper at a new place we had never been. Stan's Tap House ... great shrimp po boys and tons of TV's. We are planning on taking in the Benefit Ride on Sunday ... if it's not pouring rain ... or actually any rain. Sunday night we are going to take in Michael's event ... The Sea ... an outreach to SMU students. I'm running sound and being a roadie 'm' ... rock on, dude. That's it ... be safe.

The Phillip Townsend Benefit ride is this weekend. I will be printing the shirts today. If you still want to be on the sponsor back ... I have to know by 12 noon today. This is the design that a fellow firefighter drew for the Townsend family.
Phillip Townsend was a Denison firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty on Dec. 30, 2006. The ride starts at Hanks in McKinney on Sunday March, 25 at 1:30 p.m.. We will ride to the Central Fire House in Denison and return to Hanks.
Food at Hanks and live broadcast by the Wolf. Donations will be accepted all day at Hanks.

This is my buddy "Bear". Bear is one of the many cats born on our place. She is truly "my buddy". I think she knows that she is favored, because she is the only one that tries to get in the car when we go some place. I was taking some pics of an air compressor that I am putting on ebay ... when she jumped up on the fence about 6 inches from my face. She is like a two year old toddler asking ... "what's you doin?" I guess I am becoming crazy cat guy. (When we move I want to take Bear with us)

Here's a couple of my buddies. Flower (left) and Orion. I took this shot from the end of barn on one of the foggy mornings last week. The weather in our neck of the woods has been cloudy and windy. I haven't got to ride for several days. At least I can go hang out in the barn and talk to the animals.
